This is the box that's been loitering under the Xmas tree

Konbanwa!

I've been watching a show called "Japanorama". In one episode, they showcase how everyone in Japan wanted a uniform so they have a uniform for every job imaginable. I've held a job where there was a uniform before, and I must admit, I was fond of it and made me feel proud that I was part of something. Weird huh?  I just managed to snag a local event's leftover medal bearers' relay uniform uniform (no I don't work for McDonalds).

Not the most stylized outfit, though my husband says I made it look like Ali G; but it is made by Nike!

Decorate yourself

I've always had a thing for filigree.
Red Gothic Chandelier earrings. A fanciful adornment. Such elaborate metalwork. EBay them.

I'm not a hipster; I have a job.

Having a job has its perks. Mine can include a little bit of travel. Whenever I get booked at a Westin, I get excited. Nevermind that once I shamelessly name-dropped my husband to get a room upgrade to a junior suite at a Hilton. What's with me and Westin? I like the Westin smell; I mean I really like it. It's permeated all over, not just in their hotel amenities. When I walk into a Westin room, the first thing I do is breathe in the scent, and then go huff the linens. Their signature scent White Tea:
It's an incredibly soothing calm fragrance. Excuse me while I go hyperventilate into a leaf-shaped bar of soap.

Glimmer of a galaxy far far away

Labradorite gemstone has really caught my fancy lately with its' iridescence ever since I won a pair of earrings that gave me a brief introduction to them. Corporate classy yet subtly pretty"a good quality labradorite cabochon suitable for beading usually sells for between $3 and $6 per carat."

I had originally won 3 necklaces made in faceted rondelle silver thunder polished glass beads, but the designer was kind enough to custom make me 1 necklace substituting in 100 labradorite cabochons instead. The final result is gorgeously chic with grey velvet ribbon ties.

Delayed reaction

When in doubt, there's a drought. When it rains, it pours. Sometimes I get informed about a winning long past the closing date when I'd practically forgotten about entering the contest. Caught me by surprise when they sent me an email saying I won

Captain Planet would be pleased

Here's a diy re-purposing project that was super easy to accomplish and turned out particularly well:
Sailor knot headband step-by-step instructions I used. The web is plastered with tutorials for various forms of knotted headbands. I recommend it if it speaks to your style; give it a try! Minimal materials that can be readily found around the home + minimal effort! This is a fantastic introduction to re-purposing for those that are diy novices. Recycle, reuse, re-purpose!

'Net Noodling

Another show I watch is MTV's Catfish. I find it fascinating. I think that if I were to meet a guy online and never video-chatted that he would think he's catfished; I'm that incredulous in person. I sympathize with the people on the show because I have stretches of social awkwardness too. I can totally see myself being more comfortable chatting to someone new at home cozy in my ridiculously pink plush bathrobe
than putting myself out there in the meat market. I think nowadays, social interaction is really tough. My social circle only keeps shrinking. When it comes to people, new just isn't exciting anymore, new is exhausting. I find it tiring trying to keep someone's attention much less standing out as an interesting character! If I talk to you in face-to-face, I'm apt to say something off-color. If I'm quiet, it isn't because I'm snobby; sometimes there's just nothing going on in my empty little head!

Organic clean hair

CanadianGiftGuide.com is a fantastic blog. Her prizes are always timely delivered with next to no hassle. I won yet another luxury prize from her, including:
Moody Sisters Dry Shampoo $14. Like that it is lightly Lemon Verbena essential oil scented and love that it comes with a puff for spot on application! I've been meaning to give dry shampoo a try for a while now in order to preserve my artificial hair color from fading longer. So this came at great timing!

The company logo is also way too cute for words;

Hair iron

Super shiny device.
Sparkle vivid livid pink beast of a hair straightener I picked up in Akihabra, Tokyo. Made it back home in my suitcase perfectly fine. The plates are a good size. Its fantastically liteweight. The cord swivels 360° for maneuverability. Gets super hot and does the trick!

I have a confession

I love my American chain Aeropostale hoodie much more than my local Vancouverite favorite TNA hoodie despite the latter being five times the price of the former. What can I say: The cut fits me better. It's just the right amount of warmth I want a hoodie to give. The fabric is soft yet can withstanding repeatedly going through the washing machine. The lettering has flattering placement. There isn't a single criticism I can think of against my Aeropostale hoodie! Affordable, comfortable, easy to find with plenty of selection. Aeropostale always.

Seperated by the sea

Currently on a hiatus from the norm. Hey, I have a lifestyle to upkeep! In the meantime, I bring you this:
H2O+ Sea Pure Replenishing Body Cream. Smells like the seawall. It's an oddly familiar raw scent of the water and the rocks. For any Vancouverites who've gone abroad and are missing home, grab a bottle and sniff your homesickness away.

A sucker for plush towels

Was at the Bay and on a lark bought a Hotel Collection microcotton bath towel
in a distinguished Aegean sea green tone for $18.99 on sale. Turns out these luxurious towels are on Oprah's favorite things of 2012.

However, this still reigns as my absolute fav:
Restoration Hardware's Turkish bath towel in Thyme right now on sale for $22.

The two are similar in price but very different in feel depending on personal preference. Both luxurious options worth pursuing.

Finding Zen

I'm a self-professed packrat. If a thing has a use, even if it's a far in the future use, it gets tucked away. Unfortunately, I happen to live in a teeny tiny apartment. I now understand the concept beauty of the empty space.

There is a quiet calm in nothingness.
Bath & Body Works - Rain Kissed Leaves. I don't recall which place I received a travel set of this scent as compliments of a hotel amenity.

Cosmetic sunscreen

I got a sample of this using 100 beauty insider points from Sephora.
benefit The Big Easy Liquid To Powder SPF 35 Foundation. Generally, the texture of face products with SPF isn't great in that they're slimy feeling. However the dry-touch finish in this one tries to counteract it. A thoughtful additive that I can appreciate. Matte SPF, imagine that.

The latest fad in home stuffs

Apparently: A bath mat in 100% linen absorbs better and dries faster than any natural material. Linen is a naturally bacteria-resistant material. And the coarse texture is suppose to gently exfoliate your feet.
At 2,800 yen it better be amazing.

Rejuvenating

Jouviance gave me a few items from their line of summery coral colored makeup. This French Canadian company gives a great overall first impression. Don't you just love products that lives in good containers? The metal lipstick case closes with a magnetic click. The product itself is a peachy neutral:

Frankly, not enough color pay-off for my taste. I do see it being universally easily wearable due to its balm-y texture.

Can't have it all

I've seen these Cariloha bamboo bed linens heavily promoted and am mighty curious about them!
I tried for a bit to win the $199 sheet set but it was pretty much futile. Sigh, such a calming hue.

Let me take a selfie

You might be wondering why some of my photographs are extraordinarily grainy. The reason is because I'm lazy. The easiest thing I have around that can both snap a photo and upload it quickly without using data or any cables is my Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Samsung's always had the reputation of style over function. That doesn't deter me, I have plenty of Samsung gadgets! For my level of techy, ease of use and prettiness of the gadget beats hardcore specs. I do wish the camera adjusts to different light conditions better tho!

Tutu Tuesday

Apparently tutus are in.
But probably not this way. Sorry Betsy Johnson. And sorry for these outrageously fake fakes too

For when I want to play pretend ballerina as a grown-up and not feel self-conscious about being ridiculous, I'll reach for this instead:

Kabuki blushing

Blush is vital to fake looking awake and youthful when you're not. Especially with higher end blushes, pigmentation is heavy. It's way too easy to grab too much powder on normal blush brushes and end up looking clownish. Instead, I prefer to tap a kabuki brush onto my pan and apply to give a better dispersion of color.

Me and my furry little friend:

Numb Yum

My dentist keeps giving me this

Sensodyne toothpaste. I do not have sensitive teeth, but for some reason I can't explain, I love it. It has a pleasantly smooth not overtly minty taste.

Not only a haven for granola stuff

Tired of seeing the same mass-produced accessories over and over again at the mall? Be different and go online instead. Etsy has handmade items crafted by artisans. Each artist brings their own flair. If you're on the hunt for a one-of-a-kind item design, come see the Etsy community's unique stores! Fabric button earrings have been quite popular among the diy crowd. These mini pink floral ones are so nostalgic:
I do warn you though, Etsy can cost you a pretty penny. These seemingly simple earrings are priced at $7 if I hadn't won them! But hey, all in the support of expression of individuality!

Sun safe

My latest obsession has been finding a foundation with sunscreen.

Pur Minerals CC Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 40. Here's to being hopeful!

I want a solution that will provide medium coverage because I'm too lazy to do a separate concealer product for my problem places. With global warming and all, I also am learning the importance of incorporating some SPF into whatever I can. No freckles for me please!
So hot in Japan..
